Lok Virsa plans programmes for August 14

National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage, Lok Virsa will hold various cultural programmes here on August 14 to mark the Independence Day of Pakistan.

The celebrations will start with flag hoisting ceremony at the premises of Lok Virsa while the ‘Artisans-at-Work’ display, folk music performances, photographic exhibition and screening of film on Pakistan Movement by the Department of Films and Publications will be the major features of the day.

The Heritage Museum will remain open to public from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for local and foreign visitors.

Lok Virsa Executive Director Khalid Javaid told this agency here Wednesday that the demonstration of artisans-at-work will showcase the arts, crafts, culture and traditions from different areas of the country.

Lok Virsa, according to its mandate, will take necessary steps for preservation and perpetuation of the endangered skills to promote its practitioners.

He said that the purpose of presenting these programmes is to create awareness among the young generation about the contributions of the stalwarts of freedom movement.

“It is an attempt to remind all cross sections of society about the value of freedom and sacrifices made by our forefathers,” he added.

The events will also include an exotic ‘Craft Bazaar’ with a focus on food stalls as part of the festivities.
